Starting to Pay Attention

I’m the type of person who fear of embarrassment and failure keeps me accountable, and being that I’m not too fond of being out of breath when I go up a flight of stairs, or have my hips and back get sore when I go for a long walk, or generally not have the energy that I’d like. Not to mention that I don’t feel like I look good in anything. But enough whining. It’s time to start paying attention. Again. Will this time work? I hope so. I’m determined to learn, and I’ll share the journey and all my new knowledge on this blog.

Today was the day my day job department was supposed to start it’s Biggest Loser competition, but it was delayed. Good idea, generally, but not exactly my cup of tea. There are too many details to share, that I’d rather not. But I will say that I am starting off at 100% of my weight. I’ll weigh in on Tuesday mornings and then I’ll be able to compare my progress to all the Biggest Loser contestants.

I know I am supposed to set both short term and long term goals, but my immediate goal is just to have any kind of loss at all by next week. Just for perspective’s sake, I will reveal that I should lose at least 100 pounds to be in that “healthy BMI” range — but I know I’m not going to get there overnight, and quite possibly not at all. But I should be able to move in the right direction. And even if it’s very tiny steps, that’s okay.

On the menu today was/is

Diet Yogurt  with a tablespoon of ground flax meal

Cinnamon sugar donut

Coffee with 3 creamers and Splenda

A turkey sandwich on wheat

2 ounces of Chili Cheese Fritos

a can of diet coke

a banana

a cream cheese croissant

And AuGratin Potatoes with Ham

Exercise — so far none, but maybe I will play Wii Sports after I watch Biggest Loser. Will I be inspired? We’ll know tomorrow!
